This is a great little RFID board we have put together. It is a modified version of Sparkfun's RFID USB Reader; the difference being the FTDI has been replaced with an Atmega32U2, and some of the extra pins have been broken out to the side of the board. These extra pins can be programmed to control servos/motors, LEDs, etc.

Description:
This is a great little RFID board we have put together. It is a modified version of Sparkfun's RFID USB Reader; the difference being the FTDI has been replaced with an Atmega32U2, and some of the extra pins have been broken out to the side of the board. These extra pins can be programmed to control servos/motors, LEDs, etc. The Atmega32U2 has been pre-programmed with the DFU bootloader as well as a USBtoSerial converter. This means that the board will automatically be detected as a COM port on your computer right out of the box!


Open up a Serial Communicator application, scan a card and voila, you will see the unique ID of the card! If you want to be more creative, you can easily activate the onboard DFU bootloader (short DTR to GND and press the reset button) and write your own code (upload it without a programmer directly over USB) to make this a completely stand alone unit to embed in your automation project. No computer necessary.

You will need to download Dean Camera's USBtoSerial converter drivers! If you want to use the onboard bootloader, you will need to get the DFU drivers, as well as FLIP from Atmel for USB bootloading.
