The CDS Photcell - Photo resistor is a symmetric input device that is sensitive to light. When connected to power (either pin), and a development board (like Arduino, Netduino, mBed, or Raspberry Pi), along with a pull-down resistor (like 10K Resistor) the photocell will give an analog reading. The voltage will vary up or down based upon the intensity of the ambient light. The voltage will be 2.5V or higher when the light are more intense (like daylight) and less intense when it's dark.
