This is the Pololu standard voltage (4.5-20V) push button power switch. It uses a latching circuit that is triggered by the on board push button, or you can solder a separate button off board, since it does not come mounted on the board. It acts like a power switch, kind of like in your mobile phone.
You simply press the push button, and the board will provide power (MAX: 10amps) to your project using the built in P channel transistor (FDS6679AZ). This is different to using a mechanical switch since it gives your micro controller the power to shut itself off! This is a great feature, since you can have a timer programmed to trigger the shutdown feature and save power.
