Both RFID and NFC are wireless technologies used for tracking, tagging and replacing barcodes. RFID works with an antenna and a memory chip and can only be used in one-way communications. NFC is a much more advaced technology and can be set up for use in one- and two-way communications. RFID tags are used in credit cards, pet GPS tracking chips used by veterinarians, and in employee identification cards that allow access to certain areas only. One-way NFC communication is used in movie posters, event flyers and other promotions and allows the viewer to get more information about the product or event. Two-way NFC communication is gaining more popularity by the day: it is currently being used in cell phones to allow digital wallet payments and information transfer from cell to cell.
