A ULN2003A is a high-voltage, high-current Darlington transistor array that consists of seven NPN Darlington pairs. Similar to the other ULN Darlington transistors, the ULN2003A only differs in logic input levels (TTL, CMOS, PMOS) and number of inputs (8).
The drivers can be paralleled for higher current capability, or stacked one chip on top of another; both electrically and physically have been done.
A Darlington transistor is a set of two bipolar transistors, in which the current amplified by the first transistor is further amplified by the second.
